SAN FRANCISCO-OAKLAND BAY BRIDGE CANTILEVER TRUSS DISMANTLING
Development of a 3D BrIM models in Tekla Structures for the existing 2400 ft. long Cantilever Truss from Pier E1 to Pier E4; Cantilever truss modeled complete with all elements including joints, verticals, diagonals, upper & lower chords, sway bracing, upper & lower lateral bracing, stringers, floor beams, curbs, barriers and roadway decks; Special challenges included modeling 1930’s as-built structural drawings to model extremely complicated truss member and connection details for a massive, structural steel tonnage 34,000 ton +/-, riveted structure composed of plates, angles, latticed bracing and eyebars; complete plate-level construction detail @ LOD 500 captured in the models; Tekla model with 17,000+/- pieces and 8,000+/- assemblies modeled; engineering support for deconstruction, including development of a detailed stick-by-stick demolition sequences of the structure; development of detailed drawings for field cut knuckles and members; 4D deconstruction animations; Construction Cost $30 Million; project completed ahead of schedule with no structural claims.
